On 14 June 2026, almost 70 participants from diverse backgrounds came together for the Heritage Treasure Hunt, an engaging activity held as part of the 2nd Edition of Bhutan for Wellbeing Festival in Bumthang.

The event challenged teams to discover seven historic and cultural landmarks across the Chamkhar valley while searching for the legendary β€˜Golden Dragon’s Eggs’. Teams were formed randomly and identified by colored flags before setting off with clues provided in Dzongkha, English, and visual formats. At each heritage site, participants met a β€˜Treasure Guardian’ who tested their knowledge of local history and culture before awarding them a stamp, the next clue, and a β€˜Golden Dragon’s Egg’.

Adding a unique historical dimension to the experience, participants collected impressions of recreated historic seals and stamps inspired by those once used in Bhutan, allowing them to engage with an important aspect of the country’s administrative and cultural heritage while progressing through the hunt.

The treasure hunt encouraged participants to explore Bumthang’s rich heritage in an interactive and enjoyable way. With no vehicles permitted, teams travelled on foot, worked together to solve clues, answered heritage-related questions, and, when needed, sought assistance from local residents. The winning team was the first to return to the finish point after successfully collecting all seven treasures in the correct sequence, subject to verification by the jury.

Beyond the excitement of the competition, the event promoted wellbeing by encouraging physical activity, strengthening teamwork and social connections, and fostering a deeper appreciation of Bhutan’s cultural heritage and history.

The Wangduechhoeling Palace Museum and Cultural Centre extends its sincere gratitude to the Hotel and Restaurant Association of Bhutan (HRAB), the Department of Tourism, and the Bumthang Dzongkhag Administration for successfully organizing the 2nd Edition of the Bhutan for Wellbeing Festival and for providing a valuable platform to celebrate, showcase, and promote Bhutan’s rich cultural heritage while fostering community wellbeing and cultural appreciation.

We would also like to thank all participants and supporters whose enthusiasm, active engagement, and support contributed to the success of this memorable event.
