Wired Kingdom: A Journey of Modern Gadgets in Bhutan

Wired Kingdom examines Bhutan’s early engagement with modern technology through a selection of radios, tape recorders, typewriters, cyclostyle machines, computers, cameras, telephones, and mobile phones. These objects document the gradual introduction of new tools into Bhutanese society and their influence on communication, education, administration, and everyday life.

Developed in collaboration with Jakar Higher Secondary School, the exhibition features objects on loan from the school’s museum collection. Presented together, they form a material record of technological change and reveal how Bhutanese communities adopted and adapted new devices over time.

The exhibition was inaugurated jointly by the Principal of Jakar Higher Secondary School and the Executive Director of WPMCC, in the presence of students, teachers, and staff from both institutions. The collaboration reflects WPMCC’s commitment to working with schools and local partners to research, interpret, and present Bhutan’s recent social and technological history.
