From Script to Stage- Basic Theatrical Performance Workshop for Students.

As part of the preparations for the upcoming Theatrical Performance Competition among high schools in Bumthang, a two-day basic theatrical performance workshop Workshop was conducted for participating schools. The workshop for Jakar and Chumey Schools were conducted at Jakar Higher Secondary School and Tang and aura schools at Tang Central School.

The competition is being organized to encourage young people to explore Bhutanese culture, history, and contemporary social themes through the powerful medium of theatre. Beyond developing creativity and confidence, it seeks to encourage and explore interest in theatrical arts as a meaningful platform for storytelling, critical thinking, teamwork, and cultural expression.

The workshop introduced students and teachers to the fundamentals of theatre, including its origins, common script structures, and the creative process behind staging a performance. These concepts were brought to life through the screening and discussions around the popular Bhutanese theatrical production 𝘋𝘰𝘳𝘫𝘪𝘮.

More than 100 students and teachers from the four participating schools took part in the workshops, which was facilitated by renowned Bhutanese film and theatre actor Tashi Pee Dorji.

The Theatrical Performance Competition is being organized with funding support from the Yang Ya Foundation, for which we remain deeply grateful. We also extend our sincere appreciation to Tashi Pee Dorji for sharing his expertise and inspiring the next generation of performers. Our heartfelt thanks also go to the Dzongkhag Education Sector and the management of the participating schools for their invaluable support in making these workshops possible.

We look forward to witnessing the creativity, talent, and powerful stories that our young participants will bring to the stage later in the year.
